WHAT WE NEED

BCG is looking for Project Leader and Principal consultants to help Utilities clients take on their most difficult challenges, and create strategies that spur growth and ensure long-term success. The ideal candidate will be an innovative, creative thinker with experience managing large-scale organizational change efforts, a genuine passion for problem-solving, and specific Power & Utilities experience in consulting and operating roles.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As part of our Energy practice, you will partner with leading companies in the Power & Utilities sector, lead high-performing BCG teams, and becoming a meaningful global contributor to the broader BCG Energy Practice Area.

Leveraging BCG’s knowledge and your past experience, you will lead work supporting utilities and other energy companies as they head into the future. Projects will range across the electric and gas value chain, from generation (fossil and renewable) to transmission & distribution, to customer product & services to Distributed Energy Resources. For each part of the value chain we support both strategy development and operations as well as digitization for the energy sector.

Project Leaders and Principals engage with and present to senior clients, direct studies to define client needs, manage project scoping and work module development, supervise research activities, and participate in business development. They oversee the formulation of hypotheses for research and investigation, as well as advanced analysis to identify opportunities. They work closely with clients to solidity their competitive advantage and drive value on multiple levels: financial impact, organizational transformation, enhanced effectiveness and digitalization, improved supplier collaboration and optimized risk management. Project Leaders and Principals are also responsible for continuously developing the firm’s knowledge and capabilities, and play a key role in the development and maintenance of high-level client relationships.

Project Leaders and Principals perform many of the same tasks, however the teams that Principals manage are typically larger, the client problems they face are more complex, and the client relationships are at a more senior level. Business development expectations are also greater at the Principal level.

YOU BRING (EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS)

  • 4 to 9 years of relevant experience in operations, strategy, and management consulting, specifically supporting clients in the Power & Utilities space. Experience in industry in technical and leadership roles preferred.
  • Experience leading teams of consultants, working closely together with Managing Directors & Partners, mentoring team members, and running projects on a day-to-day basis with executive level client teams.
  • MBA, or other advanced degree in business administration, finance, or other preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and a high capacity for conceptual thinking. Ability to develop leading edge business models, frameworks for analysis, and long-term business strategies that maximize shareholder value.
  • Proven ability to manage client engagements, client relationships, and provide “thought leadership” to teams, owning the responsibility for the quality of engagements.

The practice area has enjoyed rapid and sustained annual growth over several years, coming to represent approximately 10% of BCG’s global business volume.

In this role, you’ll find high visibility and clear opportunity for rapid advancement as you collaborate with BCG team members from many backgrounds and disciplines in a team-oriented, relationship-driven environment. Working alongside some of the world’s top minds on cases that reshape business, government and society, you will increase your understanding of complex business problems from diverse perspectives, and develop new skills. Twice a year, you will travel to global practice area meetings where you will have the opportunity to present to senior BCG management.
